Swedish Country Style
Intense light and high windows to let in the long summer daylight that lasts till 10:00 pm. Swedish Style is all about light and no fuss "sparse" design. Inspired by Europe but with unique design, the style hints at European traditional or boldly displays unique scandinavian modernism.
In town living spaces have high ceilings, tall windows and the soapstone stove. The furniture is clean lined, usually painted if european style or smooth teak if more modern scandinavian. The Swedish Cottage style can be either traditional or modern.
Out of town Swedish summer cottages celebrate the long days of summer and a utilitarian pracitcal view of each piece of furniture. End tables are trunks for storage, Chairs are ladder backed and originally would hang on the walls to get them out of the way at night. Couches double as fold down beds. Dining tables fold up against a wall and in the summer dining moves outside. |
